David Gropman
Born in Los Angeles California, I studied theatre design at San Francisco State University and the Yale School of Drama. I moved to New York in 1977, designing theatre, dance, and opera. In 1982 I designed my first film, Come Back to the 5 and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, directed by Robert Altman. Over the years I’ve had the good fortune to work with esteemed directors, including Mr. Altman, Lasse Hallström, Robert Benton, James Ivory, John Wells, and Ang Lee. Films include Life of Pi, The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, Mr. and Mrs. Bridge, Doubt, August: Osage County, and The Shipping News. RIPLEY is my third collaboration with Steven Zaillian after Searching for Bobby Fischer and A Civil Action.
