THE FOUR BEST FILMS OF AFFR ON SHOW AT THE ZWOLS ARCHITECTUUR PODIUM

Recap: Best AFFR on Tour
at ZAP in Zwolle

The Best of AFFR is going on tour, and the Zwols Architectuur Podium had the first! On Saturday 23 November, the four best films of the festival, selected i.c.w. Architectenweb, were shown at one of the most spectacular locations in Zwolle, the neo-gothic Statenzaal of Grand Café de Staatsman. Together with AFFR, the Zwols Architectuur Podium screened a whole day of film and architecture, with the documentaries We Start with the Things we Find, Charlotte's Castle, Made in Ethiopia and The Story of La Grande Arche. Keep an eye out on our site and socials for the next location!

‘The Best of AFFR takes viewers around the world, from New York to Toronto and from Paris to Ethiopia, exploring a kaleidoscopic mix of pressing contemporary issues. It showcases LOT-EK architects’ 30 years of experience working with upcycled shipping containers; an unlikely group of activists fighting a renoviction; and a giant industrial campus in eastern Ethiopia that creates both work and displacement, in a nuanced portrait of the growing Chinese presence in Africa. The programme concludes with an entertaining account of the competition, design and construction process of Mitterrand’s last great project, La Grande Arche. Is there a better way to spend a wintery Saturday in Zwolle?’ Cristina Ampatzidou, Curator AFFR
