AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Petra Brouwer

Petra Brouwer

Petra Brouwer is assistant professor of architectural history at the University of Amsterdam, with a focus on modern and contemporary architecture, town planning and architectural theory. Since 2017, she has been editor-in-chief of the peer-reviewed open access journal Architectural Histories, journal of the European Architectural History Network (EAHN). She is currently working on an edited volume of World Histories of Architecture: The Emergence of a New Genre in the Nineteenth Century, based on her research as a residential scholar at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles (2014) and a visiting professorship at McGill University’s School of Architecture in Montreal (2018). Another book project, developed with Tim Verlaan, examines Amsterdam’s ‘compact city’ policies of the 1980s.
