AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Niels Geerts

Niels Geerts is a young architect at de Architekten Cie. where he works on a variety of projects. From urban planning to interior design and from building to furniture. His interest lies in working on sustainable, socio-cultural projects within an urban environment. Currently, his main focus is on the renovation of the Lower House of the States General.

Niels graduated cum laude from the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture in 2022 with the Heelhuis project, a proposal for a health home between the Overtoom and the Vondelpark, which was designed entirely from the perspective of a patient – a classmate who was seriously ill. Designing from the user’s ‘I perspective’ is central to this project. The design started from the most personal space, the bed, and expanded through the room and interior to an urban scale.

Thanks to previous studies at both the Utrecht School of the Arts (Spatial Design, focusing on interiors) and Delft University of Technology, Niels combines craft with science and feeling with reason. In this, he tries to connect as many different disciplines as possible.
