AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Lyongo Juliana

‘Who will be the people living in the Netherlands in 50 years’ time? What are their housing needs?’ Architect Lyongo Juliana focuses on a ‘more diverse and inclusive urban planning and architecture’.

He began his architectural studies at Pensylvania State University and has continued that at the Department of Architecture at Eindhoven University of Technology. Lyongo has spent the past 25 years working in both the Netherlands and the Caribbean. With his firm lyongo architecture, he works on high-profile, modern buildings.

In the Netherlands, he focuses on ‘more inclusive architecture’. In 2020, he therefore started research as Architect in Residence at Arcam and continued this research as a fellow at Pakhuis de Zwijger in the Designing Cities For All programme.
