Catja Edens is an independent architectural historian and writer. She teaches architectural history at Delft Technical University and the Academies for Architecture in Arnhem and Rotterdam. With her PhD research at Eindhoven University of Technology she explores the archiving of women architects and the ways it has affected architecture culture in the twentieth century. Edens works from a historical awareness perceiving architecture as a cultural expression defined by its place and time, and the specific values, circumstances and challenges involved. With her work as a teacher, writer, moderator, and podcast maker she builds bridges between the worlds of architectural design, academic research, government, education, and the general public. “I enjoy exploring new forms and collaborations to find ideas, insights and solutions. I love working interdisciplinary with scientists, artists, musicians, designers and others, choosing new roads and trying out other forms of working and presenting ideas.”
