AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Alex van de Beld

Alex van de Beld (1963) was founder of the Groningen firm Onix and from 2014 has worked from Sweden under the name Onix international. He teaches Advanced Architectural Design at Lund University. His projects are characterised by innovative constructions, experimental structures and their practical dimension . Wood was and is the building material of choice as evidenced also by the book Wood Works Onix of which he is co-author. Through the Dutch agency Noon (www.noon.frl), he connects architecture, social, cultural and spatial qualities through design research. His fascination for Scandinavian architecture stems from the convincing connection of environment and building, city and landscape, man and space that has long been found there.
