about the films

Renovation

Ilona thinks she has found her ideal home in run-down but charming Soviet-era apartment block in Vilnius, where she hopes to build her career as a writer. But her new life is abruptly upended when renovation begins without warning.

Living Together: The Story of De Warren

‘De Warren’ is the first completed self-built housing corporation in Amsterdam. Without any prior knowledge, the collective negotiates its way through the process of developing, designing and constructing a collective residential building, but at what price?

About Phoenix Cinema

Phoenix Cinema, London’s longest-running independent cinema and a community charity at the heart of East Finchley, housed in a striking Art Deco building – a perfect partner for AFFR.

About the London Festival of Architecture

The London Festival of Architecture (LFA) is back for a month-long celebration of architecture and city-making in June 2026. With events taking place across London, the Festival will once again serve as a platform for conversation, testing new ideas, promoting emerging talent, and helping to steer us towards a more equitable, sustainable city. The theme of this year’s edition is ‘Belonging’, and naturally, the selected AFFR films connect with this theme.
