Romanelli searches for remote places in Europe that are named after Venice: a beauty salon in Zagreb, a shopping centre in Istanbul, a Romanian village with more sheep than inhabitants, a neighbourhood on the eastern fringe of Berlin. In the style of Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities, Romanelli examines the cultural impact of a city. With stunning images and touching stories about the longing for Venice, the city slowing sinking under the weight of tourists and water.
