City for Sale

The next Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam takes place at LanterenVenster cinema from 4 to 8 October 2017. This year's festival focuses on the city as a commodity. Under the motto ‘City for Sale’, AFFR will explore the effects of international flows of capital on the composition of the city and its population: buildings as investment models, architecture as a tourist attraction and the city as a revenue model.

The ninth AFFR takes place from 4 to 8 October 2017. After the opening film at the Rotterdamse Schouwburg, the festival moves to LanterenVenster cinema. This year the AFFR will again welcome dozens of international filmmakers and an expected 7500 fans of films, city and architecture from all over the world.

AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Online cinema PLAYTIME

PLAYTIME is the online cinema of AFFR. Every fourteen days AFFR dips into its archive and selects new films which you can watch for a small fee. Some ten films are currently available, among them Cholet, the work of Freddy Mamani, the opening film at the last festival. In this cheerful documentary, Brazilian film maker Isaac Niemand follows the self-made architect Mamani who designs expressive colorful buildings in the grey city of El Alto, Bolivia.

PLAYTIME is the online cinema of AFFR. Watch films on cities and architecture straight from the archives of the Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam. You can choose between 10 different titles. Every week the programmers of AFFR will add two new films, so you can watch 50 films a year. Each film is paid per view; members of Club Fountainhead watch the films for free.
