The tenth AFFR takes place from 10 to 14 October 2018. After the opening film, the festival moves to LanterenVenster cinema. This year the AFFR will again welcome dozens of international filmmakers and an expected 7500 fans of films, city and architecture from all over the world.

AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Four shorts by filmmaker Joe Gilbert

In the coming weeks AFFR will show four shorts by filmmaker Joe Gilbert. We already started last week with Grenfell, about the Grenfell Tower fire disaster in London. The second short by Joe Gilbert is 1000 FT, about a day in the life of The Shard, the tallest building in Western Europe, which dominates the new London skyline. We will add two more films in the next two weeks. You can watch all the shorts by Joe Gilbert FOR FREE at our online cinema PLAYTIME.

Joe Gilbert is a multi award-winning documentary filmmaker who specialises in films about brutalist architecture and social housing. His films have screened internationally at film festivals and exhibitions.

PLAYTIME is the online cinema of AFFR. Watch films on cities and architecture straight from the archives of the Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam. You can choose between 10 different titles. Every week the programmers of AFFR will add two new films, so you can watch 50 films a year. Each film is paid per view members of Club Fountainhead watch the films for free.
