AFFR explores the relationship between film, cities and architecture by programming and screening architecture films and by organizing introductions and debates.

AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Marieke Berkers Interim Director AFFR

Marieke Berkers is to take up the position of interim director of the Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam. On 1 January 2023, she will succeed Joep Mol, who is taking leave as director after twelve years of involvement with the festival.

The Experimental City (60′)
The world of the Jetsons comes to inhabit this ultimate living lab for urbanization from the 1960s.

New Town Utopia (81′)
The story of how the utopian town of Basildon and its dreams have gradually fallen into the decay and rose again.

Family in the Bubble (78′)
A classic tale of a housing bubble and how it burst, told as a blood-chilling family chronicle.

Human Shelter (49′)
When does a shelter become a home? Find out in this odyssey around the world in search of answers.

Melting Souls (87′)
This film proofs that happiness can be found anywhere, even in the most polluted city in the world, above the arctic circle.
