AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Spaceship Earth (Matt Wolf, 2020), the compelling story of Biosphere 2, the futurist complex in which eight idealistic scientists hermetically sealed themselves off from the world for two years in the 1990s.

In This World (Michael Winterbottom, 2002), the prize-winning docudrama, still relevant, about two young Afghans and the weeks it took them to journey from a Pakistani refugee camp to London, an arduous voyage full of human traffickers, suffocating cargo spaces and temporary jobs.

The Swimmer (Frank Perry, 1964), on a warm summer’s day full of pool parties in the suburbs of Los Angeles, Burt Lancaster decides to swim home via the swimming pools in the neighbourhood, leading to hilarious confrontations with the lifestyle of the wealthy residents.
