The twelfth edition of the Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam takes place at LantarenVenster cinema from 7 to 11 October 2020. The AFFR editors — headed by curator Jord den Hollander — select around 85 high-profile international films about recent developments in the city and architecture. In addition to screening feature films and documentaries, the festival includes talk shows, debates and lectures related to topical issues.
With the theme of ‘Guilty Architecture’, the Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam turns its attention to the changing role of architecture and urbanism in a rapidly polarizing world. Historical continuity (or the perception of it) in the built environment is increasingly embraced in the debate around authenticity and identity. It finds expression in an urge to build on tradition and memory. Yet while populist political leaders propagate traditional values and classical styles as symbols of unity and national identity, what exactly is the role of the government in determining the architecture of its buildings? And just how value-free is architecture today?
AFFR & COVID-19
Despite the COVID-19 crisis, we currently assume that the twelfth edition of AFFR can take place from 7 to 11 October 2020 as intended. We will make a final decision on this in July. Please submit your film about city and architecture before 13 May. In case AFFR 2020 is postponed, we will gladly include your production in the selection procedures for next year.
Filmmakers and film producers are invited to submit films, documentaries and shorts in the field of city and architecture for the upcoming edition. Deadline is 13 May 2020. For questions or more information: firstname.lastname@example.orgShare this item
