AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Biosphere 2 was a unique architectural and ecological experiment of particular relevance to today. Spaceship Earth tells the fascinating story of the futurist complex in which eight idealistic scientists hermetically sealed themselves off from the outside world for two years in the 1990s

Filmic ode to Peter Rice, the brilliant engineer who worked on the most iconic buildings of the twentieth century. An Engineer Imagines follows Rice’s extraordinary life, from his native Ireland and his work on Lloyd’s of London, the Centre Pompidou and Sydney Opera House, to his tragic death in 1992.
