AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Venice Elsewhere

The dream as the ultimate escape in a torn and globalized world. A longing for Venice, a city slowly sinking under the weight of tourists and water. Anthropologist and filmmaker Elia Romanelli searches for remote places in Europe that are named after Venice. Places whose inhabitants cherish a silent desire to one day visit the city they’ve never seen. In the style of Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities, Romanelli poses the question: how does a city live in our imagination? With stunning images and stories, Venice Elsewhere philosophizes on the cultural impact of a city, on the power of the imagination, and on the tragedy of loss. The city as the ultimate metaphor for life.
