AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

The Model Couple

The Model Couple

When the French government decides to build an ideal city, preparations include locking an ‘average couple’ inside their apartment to observe their behaviour. Their life in the apartment, a sort of miniscule version of the ideal city, is aired on television so that everybody can assess the people the city is being built for. Sound familiar? The Model Couple preceded ‘The Truman Show’ and all ‘Big Brother’ experiments by decades. The film offers a hilarious and disturbing commentary on totalitarian regimes and brings into focus an oppressive future – one that already seems to have materialized.
