AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Siza

Turning 90 this year, the Pritzker Prize-winning architect Álvaro Siza still goes to his office every day to design, draw, write and reflect. And to smoke, for there is scarcely a scene in which the architect doesn’t have a cigarette between his fingers as he draws. Siza is a revealing portrait, full of personal stories from his sister and architects Eduardo Souto Moura and Carlos Castanheira. There’s plenty of attention for his drafting skill and the wonderful minimalist portraits that he still makes almost every day. A fine and restrained film about an architect whose modern, humanist vision has inspired designers not just in Portugal but across the world.
