AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Rain Harvest Home

Rain Harvest Home

In Central Mexico, where the Rain Harvest House is located, temperature rise and population increase have made water an increasingly precious resource. Designed by Robert Hutchison Architecture and Javier Sanchez Arquitectos (JSa), the house actually consists of three independent structures – a main house, a bathhouse and an art studio. All three buildings collect rainwater in a reservoir, and the gravity-fed water treatment system that purifies and stores rainwater covers 100% of the home’s water needs year-round. This sensational short is a great example of how sustainability goals can lead to staggering designs.
