Located in the Arctic Ocean is the Russian peninsula of Jamal: the world’s largest gas field. For 200 generations, the Nenets, an indigenous nomadic tribe, have been making a 1500-kilometre trek across the peninsula. Their way of life depends on their herd of reindeer, but it is now threatened by the huge demand for gas. An infrastructure of gas pipes, roads, railways, landing strips, ports and cities threatens their nomadic way of life. They know that they cannot win the battle against Mother Russia, and so in order to survive they see no choice but to adapt to the industrialization of their landscape.
