AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Make Do With Now

A surprisingly optimistic film about a new generation of Japanese architects who deploy limited resources in responding to current social and ecological questions. The earthquake in the east of Japan in 2011, followed by the nuclear disaster in Fukushima, caused great social and economic unrest. The interest in ‘starchitecture’ among young architects disappeared immediately. They went in search of a more critical, ecological and social approach. Made for a Swiss exhibition of the same name about developments in Japanese architecture, this film offers an enthusiastic view of new Japanese architecture practice, which every young architect can emulate.
