AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Life Assembled

Can we learn anything from the housing experiments of 50 years ago? Elodie Degavre pays a visit to four adventurous elderly Belgian architects: Simone and Lucien Kroll, Jean Englebert and Paul Petit. They realized experimental housing communities that created a stir in the conservative architecture world. The homes they built together with adventurous residents in Brussels, Liège and Charleroi still look astonishingly modern. Degavre’s journey back in time is a silent appeal for more adventure and experimentation in architecture. A film that kindles enthusiasm, encouraging us to break open the world of building that now seems too set in its ways.
