AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Intuition

Intuition

The leading PvdA politician Adri Duivesteijn, who passed away earlier this year, left his mark, as Alderman for Housing, on Almere, the Dutch ‘self-build’ municipality. His political and personal mission to develop building patronage among citizens began to take shape early in his career when, as an alderman in the 1980s, he worked on the deadlocked urban renewal process in the Schilderswijk neighbourhood of The Hague. After reading an article about the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza, who entered into dialogue with residents for his housing projects, Duivesteijn followed his intuition and travelled to meet Siza and his projects in Portugal. A journey that marked a turning point in his thinking about building patronage among citizens.
