The Palace in Miami is a nursing home like no other. A staggering cross between a five-star hotel and an American version of Versailles. This temple of kitsch is filled with crystal chandeliers, gilded statues and marble floors. However, Beat Oswald and Samuel Weniger’s amusing Golden Age shows that nothing is as it seems. The opulence and excess of the luxury nursing home turn out to be a golden cage, where seniors are welcomed as lucrative sources of profit. In the meantime, they suppress their fear of dying with a never-ending party and mountains of money. A universal story about our problematic relationship with old age.
