AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

Jackson Hole, the suburban dream on the outskirts of Beijing, is one of the many replica towns in China. Thousands of people abandon the bustle of Beijing to spend their days in an artificial American bubble where everybody lives the American Dream. The property agents in Jackson Hole promise a life of freedom, happiness, spirituality, love, and your own back garden. Like many of her neighbours, Annie Liu desperately pursues this American lifestyle. From clichéd American clothing and dinner parties with marshmallows to manuals about how to play the perfect American housewife, nothing seems too absurd when it comes to fulfilling expectations. In tragicomic fashion, Adam James Smith in Americaville captures a radical belief in this dream, or nightmare.
