AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

After the End of the World

After the End of the World

Beirut exists in a constant state of being and fading. Buildings stand vacant as a result of civil war damage or because they were never finished. Nobody sticks to a masterplan or concerns themselves with what it’s like to live here – with a wall right in front of your window. Buildings disappear just like that, and soon nobody can even recall them. Nadim Mishlawi searches in Beirut for traces of his past and speaks to architects and archivists who do likewise in their own way. His film explores how you can look at a city while also exploring Beirut. In a grand finale, a port warehouse explodes.
