About the film
An indestructible dream castle: that is how 11-year-olds Angelo, Mery and Rosy see their self-built home in the ruins of a nursery in Danisinni, a suburb of Palermo. Directors Virginia Nardelli and Stefano La Rosa bring their camera to the children’s eye level, as they turn the ruins into their playground. While Angelo, Mery and Rosy play house and clean and fix up their new castle, they talk to each other about their difficult backgrounds and remind one another not to make the same mistakes as their parents. The Castle presents a hopeful portrait and shows the importance of safe spaces, where children can shape their own future through play.
