About the film
The story of how techno emerged in Detroit, a city grappling with economic recession, a collapsing car industry and the AIDS crisis. While Detroit was known as the murder capital of the US, an underground sound was taking shape: techno, born from Black musical traditions like jazz, Motown and blues. In interviews with influential techno DJs and producers such as ‘Mad’ Mike Banks, Waajeed and Crystal Mioner, the film explores the early days of techno as a musical movement, the community’s resistance to major record labels and the lasting impact it continues to have on musicians today.
