About the film
The legacy of apartheid is alive and well in the urbanism of Cape Town, where Reclaim The City activists are fighting a David versus Goliath battle against spatial injustice. When the governments decides to sell a school to a private developer a group of activists led by Nkosikhona (Face) Swartbooi decide to take action. Mother City is a thorough examination of the urgent architectural issue of spatial apartheid and the theft of public land. The film, made over period of six years, is also a fascinating portrait of bravery in the face of violence, racism and corruption. A fight that takes place on the streets, in the supreme court and in parliament.
