About the Film & Architecture Studio
The Film & Architecture Studio is a multi-day course that offers an in-depth introduction to film as a tool for exploring the relationship between cities, architecture, and storytelling.
Over the span of five weeks, participants will learn how to use filmmaking as a research method to better understand urban environments. The course focuses on crafting narratives that connect architecture and the city, culminating in the creation of a short, two-minute film by each participant. Rather than emphasising the technical aspects of filmmaking or post-production, the studio prioritises scriptwriting and the development of a clear narrative. The aim is to use film as a medium for organising ideas and conveying stories about the built environment. These produced films will be screened and discussed during a public presentation at AFFR on Thursday 9 October.
Whether you’re an architect, urbanist, designer, or storyteller, this is your chance to delve into the creative potential of filmmaking as a form of research and expression.
Details about this year’s central theme and a more detailed program will be announced soon, but if you don’t want to miss this opportunity, register now!

About Jord den Hollander
After having finished his master’s in architecture at the Technical University of Delft, Jord den Hollander followed a course in scenario writing at the Filmschool in London. Throughout his career he has often combined both disciplines. He has made documentaries about art and architecture, has written and directed internationally acclaimed television series for children about art and science and he was one of the founders of AFFR, the world’s biggest architecture film festival, which he co-founded in 2000. In addition, he has designed a unique oeuvre that includes an architecture center for children in Almere, a mobile kid’s library, a floating hotel and a tensegrity bicycle bridge.
