AFFR History

The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) was established in 2000, and the foundation organized its festival the same year as the first architecture film festival in the world. Festivals also took place again in 2001 and 2003. In 2007 AFFR made a fresh start after a few years of silence. In 2009 the event expanded significantly in terms of visitor numbers and programming.

About the films

Make Do With Now

Anne Gross, Sebastian Gross | 2022 | Switzerland | 62 min
Motivational film about a new generation of Japanese architects who deploy limited resources in responding adequately to current social and ecological questions. ‘Lessons from Japan’, which every young architect can emulate.

TXL Berlin Tegel Airport

Lukas Schmid & Marek Iwicki | 2022 | Germany | 13 min
In 1965 three newly graduated German architects won the international competition for Tegel Airport in Berlin with a surprising design. A colourful look back at an optimistic time before flying shame or terrorism.

"All the great challenges of our time have a relationship with the physical domain [...] I think it is precisely for this reason that it is important that even the views of young people are well represented in architecture and in the debate about it."
