Modernism arrived in Tanzania just before independence in 1961. Socialism in the country succeeded modernism in giving hope and power to the new African state. Almeida was one of the first architects to design a large number of modernistic buildings, adapted to the tropical climate of East Africa. The film is a documentary about the endless pursuit for modernity, not only in architecture, but also in contemporary urban life.
